I am an Kent based business woman, my company, offers dog walking and pet sitting services, but our specialist services are teaching K9 First Aid to owners and K9 professionals.
I have always had a keen interest in helping to reunite stray dogs and regularly get involved with searching for lost dogs in the local area. Whilst I was assisting searching for a local dog Mylo earlier this year, I realised that there was a gap in the market for an organisation to help local owners. We help and support owners whilst their pets are missing, We liaise with the police and welfare organisations when they are stolen and can also scan pets found by the public. So the concept of my new organisation ‘The Missing Paw Team’ was formed
"There's no place like home "
The Missing Paw Team has been formed only a short time and we have already have 20 volunteers on board, we have raised £400 to enable us to buy scanners which we will use to check dogs that are found have microchips so that we can reunite them with their owners. Our team will carry the Halo scanner, the scanner is updated when charged and when a dog has been reported stolen through the national database and it flags the stolen status directly to the handset.
The London Borough of Bexley doesn't currently have a designated dog warden but it does have an approved kennels to hold strays for the statutory 7 day period.
Initially we will be providing a scanning service in the evenings and at weekends. We will also go out and scan cats that have been injured or killed in Road traffic accidents. Often if a cat is killed on the road the councils cleaning team are called to dispose of the body and they don't carry a scanner so owners end up not knowing what has become of their beloved pet. We can help provide closure for them.
